Texas<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Alito was the last justice to file his disclosure. His eight colleagues filed their forms by the May 15 deadline; the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, which provides support to the federal courts, including the Supreme Court, then published the forms in late June. Alito, however, received a 90-day extension of time in which to submit his form.<\/p>\n<p>The disclosures are relatively opaque and are intended to provide information about possible conflicts of interest and the justices\u2019 compliance with ethical standards, rather than snapshots of the justices\u2019 wealth.<\/p>\n<p>Alito reported $33,333 in income from the Hachette Book Group. Basic Liberty, which is an imprint of Hachette, is listed as the publisher of Alito\u2019s forthcoming book, \u201cSo Ordered: An Originalist\u2019s View of the Constitution, the Court, and Our Country,\u201d which is scheduled for release on Oct. 6. Basic Liberty\u2019s website describes the imprint as \u201cdedicated to publishing serious works of cultural, social, and political analysis by conservative writers who meet the same high standards of original and penetrating thought for which Basic Books\u201d \u2013 another Hachette imprint \u2013 \u201cis famous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The $33,333 figure is significantly less than the book income reported earlier this year by some of Alito\u2019s colleagues. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson disclosed that she received more than $1 million for her memoir, \u201cLovely One,\u201d in 2025, the highest sum for any justice. Other justices receiving income from their books included Justices Amy Coney Barrett (nearly $850,000); Neil Gorsuch (just over $300,000); and Sonia Sotomayor (approximately $88,000).<\/p>\n<p>Alito reported three trips related to speaking engagements. In January 2025, he traveled to Scottsdale, Arizona, to speak at a dinner where the Sandra Day O\u2019Connor Prize, an honor established by the late justice\u2019s clerks to honor \u201cher tireless dedication to the rule of law,\u201d was awarded.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanservicereview.com\/?p=584\">The 3-3-2-1 court?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In September 2025, he traveled to Rome to participate in the EU-US Economic Affairs Forum. His food, lodging, and travel for that trip were funded by the Mentor Group, a Boston-based nonprofit that describes its work as \u201cprimarily motivated by lack of understanding in the United States about the European Union and by misapprehension in Europe about the origins of the United States political economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And in October 2025, Alito traveled to London and Oxford, England, to participate in a forum on the rule of law. His travel expenses for that trip were covered by the Association of Marshall Scholars and the American College of Trial Lawyers, which (along with the UK Supreme Court) hosted the program.<\/p>\n<p>Alito continued to own stock in chemical companies such as 3M, Abbott Laboratories, and Dow, as well as energy companies such as ConocoPhillips, Phillips 66, and OGE Energy Corp.<\/p>\n<p>Alito and Chief Justice John Roberts are the only justices who own individual stocks. Alito\u2019s investments in oil and gas stocks have recently been under scrutiny. In particular, watchdog groups and progressive groups have argued that because of Alito\u2019s extensive holdings in the energy industry, he should recuse himself from participating in cases involving such companies \u2013 including <em>Suncor Energy v. County Commissioners of Boulder County<\/em>, a lawsuit brought by a Colorado county seeking millions of dollars from oil and gas companies for their alleged role in exacerbating climate change.
